Switchero: random teams with the Wheel

In Switchero nobody signs up with their own team. Every player signs up alone, and the teams are formed by the draw: with the Switch Wheel, in front of everyone, if you want to make a show of it. It is the right format for a different kind of night, to mix the community or to get people who do not know each other playing together.

How it works, in short

  1. 1You create a tournament in Switchero mode and pick the scoring it is played with.
  2. 2Players sign up one by one from the ticket and land in the player pool.
  3. 3From the dashboard Switch page you create the grid, distribute the pool and spin the Switch Wheel.
  4. 4When you are happy with the teams press Create teams: the bot creates a channel for each team and from there the tournament runs like any other.

1. Create a Switchero tournament

It is created like any tournament: Tournaments β†’ New tournament. At the second step, Mode, pick Switchero and Switchero scoring appears below: Battle Royale, Resurgence or Match Point. Teams are drawn at random, but points are counted with the rules of the mode you pick there.

From the dashboard

You turn an existing tournament into Switchero from Tournament β†’ General β†’ Mode, as long as it has not started. With a Switchero tournament picked at the top, the Switch entry appears in the menu; in Tournament β†’ General there is also the Go to the Switch Wheel button.

Every plan

Switchero is included in every plan, free trial included.

2. Registrations: everyone on their own

The player uses the usual button, 🎫 Create Ticket, and in the ticket presses πŸ“ Fill Registration. The form is short: their name or Activision ID (for example Name#1234567), their KD and the stream link. KD is used by the distribution by KD. KD and stream link are optional unless you make them required in Tournament β†’ Game rules.

  • After sending, the player gets the confirmation: they are in the Switchero pool, and will find out their team at the draw.
  • The bot keeps the list of entries in the πŸ“‹-iscritti channel, updated at every new sign-up.
  • Whoever closes their ticket before the draw leaves the pool: that is how to withdraw.

Note

On the Switch page the Player pool fills up on its own. You can also add a player by hand, typing the name and pressing Add, or remove them with the X.

3. The grid and the distribution

The grid is the board of the teams: one column per team and one row for each spot in a team. A trio grid has three rows, and the first row of each team is its first player.

  1. 1Open Switch and, in the Create the grid box, enter the Number of teams (2 to 64) and the Players per team (1 to 4). Press Create the grid.
  2. 2In Distribute the pool pick By KD, which puts the strongest in the first rows, or At random.
  3. 3Fix by hand whatever you like: tap a player and then another spot to swap them; tap an empty spot to put someone from the pool there.

Note

Got it all wrong? Back to pool undoes the distribution: players go back to the pool and nobody is lost.

4. The Switch Wheel

The Wheel is the moment of the draw. Press Switch Wheel, then SPIN: players in the unlocked rows are shuffled at random among the teams, and the Wheel shows where each one lands. If the night is streamed, this is the part to show.

  • When a row is fine press Lock: from then on the Wheel no longer touches it. Unlock opens it again.
  • You can spin as many times as you like: the Wheel spins counter keeps track.
  • When every row is locked the page says so: the teams are ready.

5. Create the teams on Discord

With the grid ready press Create teams and confirm. The bot creates a private channel for each team, adds its players with the registration confirmation (team, lobby and slot) and deletes the individual tickets. The team name is made of its players’ names.

Heads up

Create teams cannot be undone: afterwards the grid can no longer change and the registration tickets are gone. Use it only when the teams are final.

Note

If some teams are left without a channel, the page shows Create N missing channels. Usually the NEMIX role is missing the Manage Channels permission (Server Settings β†’ Roles): grant it and press again.

From here the tournament is a normal one: start from the Control room, lobby codes, results from the team ticket and standings, with the scoring you picked at the start.

Start, codes and closing are the same as any tournament: Creating and running a tournament.

Frequently asked questions

Can players sign up already as a pair or a team?

No. In Switchero you sign up alone: the draw forms the teams. If you want to keep two players together, you place them yourself in the grid and lock the row.

Is the draw really random?

Yes. Every spin of the Wheel shuffles at random the players in the unlocked rows; locked ones stay where they are.

Can I change a team after Create teams?

The grid, no: it is final. The teams, however, are normal teams, so a player is added or removed from the **Teams** page, like in any tournament.

How are points calculated in a Switchero?

With the rules of the mode chosen in **Switchero scoring**: Battle Royale, Resurgence or Match Point. The rest is explained in the scoring guide.
